It was necessary to not get bought out by some chinese investment group but it didn't actually accomplish anything just prolonged the fall. They're almost certainly going to get acquired or Yagoo otherwise forced out of the company at some point

that's not how investment money works you fucking idiot. They owned the chunks of the company, he didn't have an actual loan. They wanted to cash out so in order to do the company needed to get other funds which they did by going public.
