In my case I had been into various vtubers on and off since January '18 but I was never into following groups so Asacoco and the ARK boom turning even someone like me into a Hololive hako-oshi was really quite a feat. I mean, Nijisanji passed me by almost entirely (I did end up watching Iinchou for a period) because when gen 1 showed up it felt like you needed to follow all of them to be in with a zeitgeist of sorts. The same went for Hololive but that period made it so much more attractive. For me the most fun period was in those first handful of months of 2020 where Coco kept shaking things up and was pretty much the central figure, so in time the more she was left out the more my enthusiasm for the group waned to the point where her leaving just felt like a good opportunity to say goodbye to Hololive myself.
There's no bitterness or anything, I do hope they do well for themselves but I'm happy with all the additional free time I have.
