It wasn't until the unexpected graduation of Pomu and the extremely surprising termination of Selen that we got some clues into it.
What seems to have happened is that Nijisanji was so stingy and so incompetent that rather than hiring appropriate mangers, they were just handing management off to some friend-of-the-company who wanted a feather in his cap. The talents themselves were effectively running the branch. Particularly the talents who could speak Japanese, such as Elira who is diasenpai of the whole branch.
She got to hire a bunch of her friends into the branch, and formed a nasty clique which got special treatment by management.
Girls who were outside the clique were systematically mistreated.
Pomu should have been the star of their show, their flagship girl, and yet she was treated like yesterday's lunch and discarded. Selen faced such an escalating series of incidents that she started documenting and recording things, preparing a big lawsuit against the company.
On christmas eve, Selen tried to post a cover which was struck down by management. That was the last straw for her. She told her fans to reupload the cover and got terminated. While she was in the hospital for a suicide attempt, management served her a termination notice and hijacked her twitter to cover it up. They kept her termination a secret for a month while they hastily rushed out Selen merch and voicepacks for some last minute profits.
When Selen started streaming again as Doki, there was a massive reception. She was getting like 50k ccv due to the drama surrounding the incident. Apparently Elira felt jaded and butthurt, because she was used to being in control. As the queen of NijiEN, going through her was supposed to be the only avenue a struggling indie had, since holo auditions were rare events. This caused her to release the Black Stream, timed specifically to overlap Doki and cause maximum damage. In their litle discord circlejerk they actually thought this was a good idea.
