You'll wander the streets 1-2 days before Fes and see the Hololive fans out and about, the bars and food are cheaper, the hotels are nicer, you can stay an hour away from the event hall and get a round trip for like $9 bucks via public transit. You don't have to worry about getting sloshed and robbed, and Japanese people are cautiously interested in talking to you.
