VRChat is the closest we're ever getting to Ready Player One and most people just use it to have gay furry sex in private RP worlds.
The idea was always extremely dumb and optimistic, hoping that one company could shoulder the burden of re-creating the entirety of culture for the use of itself or manage to license it from people who would make ancient kings blush with embarrassment at their cupidity. A company like Hololive may have the best chance at getting people to play it, but they would only be there for the talents, not the game. The second the talents are gone, they would leave the boring Craftopia wannabe and play a real video game.
