You know, this reminds me of something
In the time of Moses, after he led the jews out of egypt and as they were wandering the wilderness, because of the people's complaining(despite all the things that the Lord had provided them with), God sent a bunch of snakes upon them as punishment for their ungratefulness and complaining against Him and Moses. Anyone bit by these snakes would be poisoned, and a lot of them died. These snakes represent the sin that came upon the humans as a consequence of their actions, and they also represent satan, who is the father of all sin. The people realised their sin and they came to Moses and asked him to pray to God so that He would take the serpents away from them-- notice, they only asked for God to take away their punishment--, and so God instructed Moses to make a serpent out of bronze and to set it on a pole and told him that anyone who had been bitten could look at this crafted serpent and be healed of the poison and live. This event shows us that humans are at fault for sin coming into their lives, but that they're also the only ones who can make the decision to be healed through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Jesus Himself mentions this story to a pharisee, claiming that it is to be fulfilled by Him, saying the following in john 3:14-15(KJV) "And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.", signaling that in the same way the men being afflicted by the poison of the snakes were healed by having faith in their God and the healing provided to them, so too will it go for those being afflicted by the sin caused by the father of all sin, satan, through Faith in the healing provided by the Father in His Son Jesus Christ, who was offered up as an atoning sacrifice to ransom the world of their sin.
so what does that mean? it means that death, which manifests as sin enters our lives, is not something we have to go through, for sin is a curse and a poison that is killing us slowly, and Jesus Christ was lifted up so that anyone who looks for Him shall find themselves healed of sin and so find themselves with eternal life, which was provided onto people graciously and undeservingly at the mercy of God.
God didn't have to heal the jews in the wilderness, but He had compassion on them and He saw them repent so He not only stopped the punishment by removing the snakes, but He also healed anyone who had already been bitten. Instead of letting the sick die, He provided for them forgiveness and life.
God has compassion on us in the same manner, we willfully sin and bring death into our lives, yet He is willing to forgive and heal us! But not every jew afflicted by poison had faith, and so they died in their affliction, despite all they having needed to do to get healed was have just one look at the bronze serpent.
If the jews were not told to look upon the bronze serpent lifted up, do you think they would've been healed? They would not, for God only provided one way for them to live, and how cruel would it have been for Moses to know of this way and not tell the afflicted jews?
In the same way, Jesus tells us that He is the only way to get to the Father and so too in heaven, there is no other way, and it would be cruel of me as someone who knows this information to not share it with those afflicted.
So here is the bronze serpent, lifted up on a rod:
Confess Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, and have faith and believe in His atoning sacrifice being enough to cover all of your transgressions and sins, and accept Jesus into your heart and repent of your sins, and so too will you be healed!
The kingdom of God is at hand! Make your choice for eternity now!
