The hole has 2 levels.
Level 1: leads into a mineshaft.
Level 2: a dark lava ravine.
Whoever made the hole likely died at the very bottom of it, as there is no path out. Unless they dug another hole up somewhere. But considering that Level 2 has no torches, whoever fell down there likely died.
Level 1 leads into a mineshaft, which has torches placed in it, and lots of wooden pillars missing. Whoever explored this place took lots of wood out of it. Which is very bizarre to say the least, why you would spend time taking wood out of a mineshaft. Whoever took the wood from the mineshaft was probably the person who was cutting down all the trees up above the hole, a person in need of wood. A person such as Kiara who had not finished building the roof of her house, and who's roof was mysteriously built the next day.
She dug down, hit the mineshaft, explored around and took some wood out of it. Then she returned to the hole, and continued digging down, dying when she hit Level 2 and losing all her stuff.
