a chunk of what humans call "races" fits under the definition of "subspecies"
they are regional variations of "homo sapiens" that have a range of recognizable inheritable phenotypic differences
most are region-specific adaptations - including, as typical for subspecies, changes in body size and coloration
they are still the same species - they don't normally crossbreed because they don't live in the same places, but they can crossbreed, and this produces viable, fertile offsprings
but taxonomy is often arbitrary!
and the concept of "race" is so politically charged now that it fucking glows
no credible biologist or anthropologist is going to step on that landmine
so, officially, there are no living human subspecies! it's all just "homo sapiens sapiens", one type, with no other extant variations!
