Alright while there's nothing big happening yet, lets talk about the "debut buff". How long does it generally last? Cause I feel like 2 weeks would be enough for viewers to judge if they are gonna be core watchers or they aren't interested in keeping up. Or are there still gonna be people just keeping an eye out for a bit longer to see if the streamer does some interesting games/content? Kinda curious on what kind of timeframe is best for people to show their best to maximize how many will stick for them.

Yeah, Matsuri is most definitely in trouble. And it is not even about these numbers, which are bad enough on their own.

Matsuri is in trouble because she completely took the eyes off the goal, which in her case should be to entertain her audience, and went in a complete hedonistic direction of only doing what pleases her.
Think about this collab: it worked for Towa because
1) her audience truly enjoys her APEX streams
2) one of the guests in question is a true blue card carrying Kenzoku that reached out to her to make this collab happen

Matsuri? She probably just wanted to play APEX with some big names regardless of what her audience wanted.

I get not caring about numbers, all of her genmates operate like that.
Except that, instead of being like Fubuki and doing her own thing for entertainment reasons, or being like Haachama and doing whatever TO BE ENTERTAINED BY HAATON, Matsuri went the Aki Rose path of doing things not even her own adoring audience wants to see.

The funny thing is that thanks to Lyger Matsuri was one of the first Holos the EN audience started getting familiar with in early 2020. She was poised to be huge but completely fizzled out. Compare to Marine who pandered hard and is now vying with Pekora for being the biggest name in vtubing

Only if you mean in percentage of the audience because Haachama percentage of EOP may be lower but her EOP audience is higher than Towa's in general, specially in the English Only streams and the recent Reddit meme streams.

There is a reason there are 3 or 4 [EN] translators every Haachama stream and they for the life of it never yield and all translate every stream

Matsuri may be more infamous than famous, but she is discussed and posted about way more proportionally to her viewer rate than pretty much any other chuuba, even in this board.

Newbies watch more clips than streams and Matsuri's still getting clipped a lot and those easily get over 100k views from a mildly popular channel.

Rpr towa is an almost perfect example of a mutually beneficial collab. Rpr got a huge surge in numbers and kept them because while clips and collabs expanded his audience he is legitimately skilled so he actually retained lots of them. He also seems to be a legitimate Towa fan and got a chance to collab with his Oshi. Towa has a fanbase that is going to be relatively accepting of a male Apex pro collab and she gets to play with a player with top skills, maybe make some connections for future tournaments. This isn’t leeching everyone involved profits.

The same is the of most collabs of course but people gotta be dramatic.

Melissa gets about 1.5k average viewers, as opposed to 4.5k Furen. But, that's mosly because she streams at terrible hours to under 1k viewers.
Her singing buff should be huge as she has some of the biggest covers in Nijisanji + expecting Ibra and Furen to actually appear in 3D too, since she's the last of the trio.

Despite being a terrific singer there is still no pressure over Suisei to perform (in the charts) at the same level of Calli, when she does it’s a great achievement, when she doesn’t “it’s good enough for a streamer”.
You would expect AZKi and EN-AZKi to be under similar pressure but nobody expects them to perform well on the live streaming site so it’s the same but on the other half.

Is there a reason YouTube maintains similar subs for Ina and Kiara while always having Mori around half the subs of Gura? I noticed this was set very early on and seems unchanging. Doesn’t Ina overall do better than Kiara? I don’t buy the excuse that Kiara tries to catch up, or that Mori magically maintains half the subs of Gura. Maybe YouTube pushes the videos out to others in a very specific order that it tries to maintain based on what it thinks people want to watch? I don’t know, it just seems weird. It's not Youtube doing it, it is the reality of the subscription battle.

There is no correlation between subcription count and any other metric.

Kiara and Ina are not even the only "twins", Haachama and Matsuri had their subs growth "twinned" for the longest time up until Haachama took an arrow to the knee and it, somehow, caused her visibility to MASSIVELY OUTSHINE Matsuri, something Haachama then went to take full advantage and use it in her favor.

Now, if Haachama were to slow down and take some more hiatus her absence and Matsuri presence would likely get their subs to go "twinsies" again

My point it is that it is natural and not "setup by Youtube", there is a certain natural subs growth rate for streamers and most if not all of these girls are pretty much maxing it already, it is no wonder that genmates have the same growth rate and, given the proximity of their debuts, stick together for most of their growth.

That's true even for the ones in the bottom rungs, even with the pity boost for Aki Rose Mel ended up catching backup up to her because the people subscribing are doing it in the approx same rate of their interest and the exposure each streamers gets.

Even if you "shortcut" some of that exposure, you merely picked up some subs in advance of what the general interest in your activity would generate anyway.
Unless you're doing like Haachama and Marine and expanding the market to a completely different direction and bringing in people that would otherwise not be interested in what Hololive is outputting, your growth rate is more or less set in stone

I’m suggesting that there is both a natural and artificial setup to YouTube that explains how a near perfect sub balance lasts this long. And that the gap in performance needs to be wide enough naturally, for the balance to then shift. That small shifts are ignored. That YouTube may have an idea of what was popular, and then puts that in front of people even if the performance somewhat fluctuates.

It’s speculation on my part, but possible.

It is all fun and games until 20k people are trying to log into your site in the same 60 seconds period and you have a 500 simultaneous connections bottleneck somewhere in your stack (for instance, in your database server configuration) that you never accounted for

Then the other 19500 attempts get queued, the network connection times out and they refresh the page, adding a second batch of attempts to be queued, and so on and so forth until your server melts into a puddle of copper and silicon.

Seen that happen too many times and the go to excuse is always the same

Anyone who the thinks Holo is declining is a clown, There's always gonna be up and down. People have to remember V-Tubers and Hololive especially boomed during the peak of Corona so when half of Europe was locked up people think that's the norm when it isn't.

Legally, no. They can ask really nicely and any person interested enough in their company or fan of their talent would comply.

I put a halt on my own development back in August because, well, booze and Piyo Nip Bro made his better than what I would have done.

The importance in tracking numbers is always going to be in trends, outside of the obvious events that crop up.
Seeing who's rising/falling and figuring out the whats and whys of it. It's why databases are so so so important and the loss of Vnuma and Piyo is a massive pain.

You're not wrong that numbers have become a lot more stable, every year or so since Kizuna Ai debuted there was a paradigm shift in the industry but since the Hololive explosion of early 2020 the only real massive event or trend was HoloEN solidifying their position as the top agency. A list of the biggest vtubers in 2019 and 2020 looks very different, but comparing 2020 and 2021 would be almost exactly the same.
