they vastly overestimate how important phase is because phasefags are the majority in the circles they hang out in (bvtm discord, doxxagi comment section, numbers thread, /vt/ catalog)
they believe that normal vtuber fans who aren't third world drama freaks will see these crossovers and say "haha that's my favorite vtuber grar grooba and fellow popular vtuber pikmin pippa in a whacky scenario!!"

I'll add that NijiEn being on fire made it seem like any corpo could rise to #2 in the EN sphere. In reality, Niji was crippled but not downed, Vshojo is still #3, and indies are on the rise. Associating with Holo is a way to skip all of their other rivals.
