It's not that there's anything particularly bad about a brother doing the same thing, but I think to a lot of people in the west, it feels more heroic for a father to do the things he does in Nier compared to an older brother.
It's believable for family to do everything they can for family, that much is true. But it's even more believable for Papa Nier to fuck up every fucking shade in existence if it gets in the way of him protecting his daughter. Papa Nier is fucking rad.
