Best case scenario, you could say corporate is dead, but the only real fall was Niji EN, not Niji as a whole, and the 2 billion small corpos who don't actually know how to run a vtubing business.

Part of the enjoyment of idol culture is having a large company backing them, sure you enjoy their streams but you also want them to succeed and be on stage in front of millions of fans, in small part because you were there cheering them on along the way.

All entertainment is about money. If it was only for fun, there wouldn't be any companies, million dollar games, and near-money laundering levels of deceit. That's a major reason why movies have absurd budgets; the actors get paid less if the movie doesn't profit/profits less, even if it is literally on paper/mostly spent on marketing. On the more individual side, it's why YT channels use clickbait, SEO, and even take shady sponsors like Better Help and Established Titles.
The day that vtubing is solely about entertainment will also be the day a utopian communist society forms around the globe.
Also, corporations aren't divine beings of light, all business requires the acquisition of money to operate. The only difference is that a company with 25-50 talents can afford to spread out their selling to different channels, and get large deals that seem just as invasive as the normal tactics, until you realise it is being broadcast to millions of people instead of thousands.
