This place is weird to me...

I've been lurking this board for a bit, since it's one of the busiest on 4chan, but after doing so for a while, I find the appeal of vtubing to be a really odd thing, at least to me. It makes me feel as if I just don't "get it" like an old man, because this place is so popular.
The entire concept of a vtuber is bizarre to me because...you're just watching people do things. Play games, sing, draw...things that you yourself could be doing, why watch someone else do it? And even if you like watching others do things, why does it have to be some fake character someone is acting?
I find there to be so many turn offs - from some of the streams I watched, the models move choppily, like some AI genned video, and the mouths move like poorly animated anime. It seems people that do this are always putting on a character, it must be very exhausting to be a vtuber because you're always "on" and acting, and it may seem like an easy gig but some vtubers I looked at have such full schedules. Then you have the pressure of if you say/tweet one wrong thing its over for your career. Then there's the fact I found some vtubers very annoying, like when playing games they are screaming like RIP my ears, I don't find that endearing. I couldn't stand watching these people for more than a few mins.
Then there's the entire culture behind the fans that watch this stuff, I can't get a read if people are 18 or 38. I spent some time in many generals and felt my IQ slipping. The same images reposted all the time, the same "lines" and jokes, lots of infighting. There is this cult-ish nature to people who adore their chubbas as if its their entire life, some of the things I've seen said, over and over again, the sex jokes, comments that seem borderline kidnap-ish - like, its weird to me, it never stops. It's even more weird when its a guy playing a girl version of a vtuber, even worse when its a loli character. People projecting all their dark fantasies onto a virtual puppet character that doesn't exist. When they go off stream, crying about them leaving as if the world is ending. All this sort of irks me, because unlike a fictional character from a game or cartoon, it's linked to a real person behind the scenes who is performing.
I was in a general recently where I asked a question about some fanart, and who the artists were that drew it, and was told "don't ask those questions, it makes the vtuber who visits this place feel sad about artists who left". It just read to me as simps protecting their queen, it creeped me out. Is every general here filled with mentally ill obsessive types? Does everyone gatekeep and shelter their false idols?
Sorry, I guess vtubing and it's culture are not for me. There's some cool character designs though, I'll give you that. But that is where my interest stops. I don't like the fanbases in the generals I was in, and I don't like how obnoxious and fake some vtubers sound when preforming.
