Democrats abandoned their economically left leaning New Dealers roots after the three consectuve presidential loses in the 1980s, which lead to the conservative wing of the party, lead by Bill Clinton and the Democratic Leadership Council, to win a mini civil war in the early 1990s to move the party rightwards as part of his triangulation strategy and effectively let corporations dictate the party's economy policy. Though not to the extreme they do with the Republicans. Later on, you had Obama talk a big game about moving the country left economically when he campaigned in 2008, but he immediately fell in line with the right leaning economic policies of Clinton. You did see the insurgency campaign of Bernie Sanders make a good run of trying to force the Democrats back to their New Dealers roots in both 2016 and 2020. However, he was attacked by both parties culminating in 2020 where the Democrats, lead by Obama, to prop up Biden, not because he was best candidate to defeat Trump, but because he was the best candidate to stop Bernie from getting the nomination, due to how he'd win and move the country leftward economically again. Yeah, democrats give lip services to left leaning social issues still, but Republicans have mastered the art of straw manning and beating democrats to death with said straw man issues.
At this point, I don't see Democrats moving leftward economically any time soon when you have Nancy Peloisi personally sabotaging AOC's run to be top seat in the Oversight Committee or when Kamala suggested going after the rampant price gouging, and the biggest attacks came from fellow democrats, and not republicans.
Even if the economy crashes into major depression and by act of the divine, Trump doesn't dismantle the remaining Constitutional safeguards and Republicans can still be voted out of office, I don't expect Democrats to learn any lessons about why people hate their economic policies, even if the Republicans are much worse for the country.
