if you divide it by 60 you get the number of beats per second, a 60 bpm song will have 1 beat per second, a 120 bpm song will have 2 beats per second. if you divide 20 by that, since minecraft has 20 ticks(game updates) per second, you get the amount of ticks in 1 beat. for example the 60 bpm song will have 20 ticks per beat while the 120 bpm song will only have 10. from there you just use that for each note that plays in a song. if a somg is c d e, each 1 beat appart you play c for 20 ticks if its a 60 bpm song, d for 20 ticks, and then e for 20 ticks. if c is a half note(which is two notes) you would play it for 20 ticks.
