I think normies are defintely more intuitive about these things, but I don't think that actually results in them always correctly picking up on jokes that were intended as jokes. People play off semi serious complaints as jokes a lot and there are entire communities of people who get into the "guys I don't think we are being ironic anymore" thing. I personally often think the pickign up on jokes thing is more so a receiver end thing, meaning the person who interprets it just decides it's a joke, more or less disregarding the actual intend, for the sake of social cohesion in the moment, not questioning disruptive thoughts/behaviours and instead letting it stand as a joke. That's imo how those scenarios of people just being incredibly blunt about their own opinions and others taking it as joke come about
