I have been watching Vtubers for years now. Why haven't I been able to pick up Japanese just by watching streams?

ESL chuubas all say they learned English by watching Western media so why hasn't it worked for me?

I suspect because the majority of the time its just a png wiggling around on screen rather than real humans in interacting with the real world so you can actually associate the words with objects and events.

you're never actually using the language, you can listen to it all day everyday but if you never use it then its never going to stick. also subtitles don't help much as sentence structure is quite different

They all learn it for at minimum 5 years in middle and high school and 4 years in university by default, so they have somewhat of a preliminary grasp of the language.
