Shounens itself aren't the issue specifically but once Naruto etc. were allowed >and actively protected by jannies and mods< their fans became very arrogant and started spamming the board. These people also aren't interested in all the other manga/anime, so they don't join other threads, stifle all other discussion, push other threads to page 10 and archival. Whole board drops in quality and loses the spirit of what made it so special.
Oh and, shounens weren't the only issue. There's also stuff like ACK being allowed to roam free, all the cuckposting, /pol/ invasions not being dealt with etc. It all led to people slowly but surely giving up.
Sure, you can still talk about other things but it's more difficult, more of a pain, always at risk of the thread being invaded by dpspics etc. and well, cruel reality of many /a/nons simply abandoning that place (like you or me) leading to other /a/nons losing their partners in conversation.
Basically, original fanbase is being chased away.
