Random junk doesn't get stolen
Random cool looking stuff (like the mask) that's out in the open only disappear after a day or so when everyone concludes it must be abandoned.
A bike will get stolen in a matter of hours if you don't chain it up, though.
And of course don't leave your car door unlocked. I don't know why people need to be told this, but yeah.
