For starters Ao is not popular, never has been, and even if this is unintentional (which I doubt) there is a perception that she tries to leech off of other more successful holos and that perception is even worse when she hangs out with the Holo with the most subscribers (discounting Gura of course) and it's even more annoying when she is the one forcing these interactions, for example the clip just posted here where she goes out of her way to have Marine on her streams, which by the way also annoys a portion of her own fanbase.
Not to mention that she's had a bad reputation since even before she joined hololive, where she was considered problematic and that doesn't sit well with the ichimi since Marine has relatively never had a controversy (minus the manga in the fridge yab which was a stupid harmless prank that got out of hand).
And finally Ao isn't particularly funny or entertaining, the interactions with Marine are always cringe-inducing or sleepy.
I'd write more but I'm getting tired, but I think you get the point.
