I find the people who inflate the value of STEM are outsiders who think it's some kind of golden ticket or status symbol. I'm not the only one I know IRL in this situation where we get the degree and end up with shit jobs unrelated to our degree, with no real prospects and debt.
In situations like this, the degree is just salt in the wound where you live as a failure but people remind you that you should have been successful, like you hoped to be before you got the degree and ended up underemployed or unemployed even though STEM is so important to modern society.
I imagine it's actually worse for Lumi given her parents are scientists and she has a degree, yet her job is streaming. Dizzy also talked about how her parents wouldn't respect her job as streaming, Baelz is doing the streamer/idol shit and single, while her older sister did med school and has a child. Success is relative.
