even meeting new people as an adult can be tough
then getting along well enough with someone to consider them a friend, that's pretty rare
then amp that up to actually hanging out almost daily without eventually getting on each other's nerves
and on top of that there has to be mutual attraction and chemistry beyond friendship
it's a hell of a gacha but most people are desperate and more scared of being alone than of getting their feelings hurt
