I don't think you should expect them to act like friends right off the bat.
But a major advantage corpos have over indies is that you don't constantly rely on the petty interplay of present relationships in order to get things done.
In other words, I think this is healthy. Do one of those per quarter and eventually people are gonna discover new things about themselves and their coworkers.
The idea of everything having to rely on immediate and personal relationships is why HR is such a cancerous concept nowadays and why people are becoming increasingly lonely, as such thinking means anyone who isn't either the biggest of extroverts or had a solid circle of friends before 16 gets left behind.
