He was a fucking idiot, though. Didn't want to follow War Plan Orange, so he moved most of his supplies close to where he expected the Japanese to land. Unfortunately, it's not easy to defend more than 36,000 kilometers of shoreline, let alone the shores of the main island, Luzon. When his forces got flanked and overwhelmed by the Japanese, he was forced to run to Bataan with barely any of the supplies they were supposed to have. They still held out for more than 6 months, though, which is pretty amazing considering they had nothing to eat but shoe leather by the end of the Bataan Campaign.
