Gamestop found that forcing their cashiers to ask if customers wanted to join the store membership with every transaction actually increased the sales of store memberships even at the cost of annoying a good chunk of customers and employees. As a result, every new cashier was trained to upsell that crap and after a few years of worker turnover, it became a standard practice that people thought had always existed.
It seems that way with Holo now. Flavor of the Month games feel more coordinated and corporate; Ame having to hock merch on her graduation stream; the creation of affiliate-graduations, allowing things like the Smol Ame mascot to be at Holofest; and Yagoo stating he wants to shift to a focus on its talents as IPs shortly before the Dodgers partnership. All little things that aren't difficult to do, but can add up to more profit for the company and its investors. All things I feel Holo can't -not- do or avoid anymore.
Ironically, the company that created Gura can't act like Gura and work only when they feel like it for as long as they feel like it.
It's a change in responsibilities and priorities the girls didn't sign up for when they started 4 or 5 years ago, so naturally when things start to change without their input or approval, they'll bail from the job
