When holoEN was first announced it was highly skeptical. Remember that vtubing was exclusively a Japanese thing. The vtubing community was much much smaller, especially for English speakers. We had to rely on clipper translations or learn moon runes. It was a different time where only hardcore otaku were interested in the concept at least in the west. Idol culture was a requirement.
All of first gen was immediately outed as typical western women with western values. Gura was the only EN vtuber who was actually cute, charming and innocent. She was ingrained into otuku culture and knew the rules. Without Gura, western vtubers would have failed. It would have never succeed. it would be dead in the water as the core weaboo audience would have just stuck with JP vtubers.
Instead its become the absolute dumpster fire we know today.
