It was the additions she later made herself (and missed opportunities, like changing her colors with the season from summery to fall to winter/emogoth/to spring) that made her compelling.
The reason Nimi's model isn't great is BECAUSE it's aping the original, pre-revision, fauna style without the emo girl and casual clothes that made it more likable.
It's like a videogame that was good after 10 DLC updates and after 6 years the company puts out a Videogame 2 but it lacks a lot of the content the predecessor had because they're gonna redo the DLCs and sell them back to you and everyone tells you "yeah it's barebones but wait for the DLC- it'll be good!". Nimi is going for the assumption her fanbase comes for the DLC down the line, so she didn't want to shake up the formula as it currently exists.
