What's sad is this is exactly what the author wanted to avoid. If you watched the OVA, you would know he didn't want his story to become yuri harem slop; called those fans "tards"... which means the duo currently hate their own fans.
The deadlines caught up and they probably stopped giving a fuck and turned their masterpiece into slop to keep paying the bills.
