The tips are almost never points.
I disagree on the gradients on the eyes, solid shapes would be fine, however they needed to be done with the ellipse tool rather then free handed,
Its "Lumpy", i.e. the lines are not smooth, you need to work on getting the line variation smoother.
I did a quick version of the image for an example of what it should look like.
