>>1457359Hope you don't mind an amateur taking a bash at it. Got the line work done in 74 minutes, which isn't too bad for me :) I'll do the colouring as well, just posting a WIP. I'll clean up the overflow of the lines on the top and bottom of the piece when I'm done with it.
>>1457558Probably mostly the shading. I did use a simple line for the mouth, though - do you think it'd look better with a bezier curve's tapered ends? As it is, the mouth is pretty close to the source pic, but the source *is* a low-quality jpeg...
>>1457559You're the second person to mention the face's shading, so I find myself inclined to agree. It's hard shading against the base image, because it's hard to tell what's shading and what's just blurry pixellated lines. I'll follow your advice and adjust the shading a bit to try and make it look better.
Also re: Inkscape, I've never seen Illustrator's interface, but I do like the clean simplicity of Inkscape's UI. That's also a big part of what I like about Blender 3D - it also has a quite minimal interface so you don't get too overwhelmed just looking at the program :)
>>1457563Having followed the tutorial in the OP, I use the same technique you do when drawing lines - place the nodes and adjust the curves once the path is set. I think it gives greater control than trying to set the curves as you place the node, and I'm a stickler for control in my projects :p
>>1457564Have you any more helpful adjectives than "derpy"? As I've mentioned, the source pic I'm working with is blurry shite, and I've had to improvise on some of the finer details. I've only got three pieces finished now (two Rei, one from OP tutorial), so I don't really have a good feel yet for how things should look :x
As to the colours, I grabbed them directly from a screenshot from episode 5. I don't mind pulling them from my previous piece to get some consistency in my artwork though :)
Thanks for the C&C, guys.
