So correction, your anime wife and maybe even a personal family of characters can replace the need to look for friends which can be endlessly unnecessary.
Think of it this way, good friends come along not very often, and you're very likely to at least have one or two good friends already, so waiting and being open to passively looking for good friends to come along, is better than desperately trying to search for one that it's biological, which is what you seem to believe is only real. You don't need anybody to be happy. You were born in this world alone and you will die Alone too, and that's okay, because your soul lives on, and life is as fun as you make it, and creating an entire family of characters to have fun with is part of the fun of having an imagination.
