If you are interested in improving, I'd recommend starting over and using filled shapes instead of strokes. If you don't know how to use filled shapes, the tutorial in the OP should help.
For pointers, other than dropping the strokes, would be to always start off your eyes with the ellipse tool then modify them accordingly.
I'll leave an example of how I would do part of the same image.
