Put it simply, removing the character and (i guess) redrawing the space it occupied. I'd prefer the writings to stay (you can take away the number if you feel like it).
There are other of these eyecatches (about 20 iirc) so if there's one you feel it's easier to work on go for it (picked up this as the character didn't overlap with any of the writings, only with straight lines).
