I did try what you suggested though, but what came out of it looked even more unnatural than what i started with. Would letting the hair fall over the banner be any better?

I also rarely open up the drawer anyway since my most used apps are on the homescreen. I can't add much to what Timma said since it's what I would have answered with. You might just have to sacrifice the app drawer's transparency, even if it bothers you to no end.
