>>1803452So, I agree with you on every count except the idea of
>>1797556 not being power level. A power level wallpaper, in its simplest form is a wallpaper equivalent to a secret handshake. To someone who has not seen the anime in question, the meaning is completely lost upon them. To someone who HAS seen it, the meaning is obvious and immediate. All of the rules of the power level thread ultimately just serve to better explain this simple idea: a power level wallpaper is a wallpaper that is only truly understood by those who have seen the source material. To anyone who has seen the material, the meaning is immediate and obvious; to anyone who has not, there is no meaning at all.
That is why characters aren't power level. They never have this meaning that only those who see a work can understand. I am familiar with Trigun. I know what the characters look like, but if someone had not told me that
>>1789531 was from Trigun, I would not have figured it out. Even now that I know the source, it still has no meaning to me.
>>1797556 has meaning to me because I have seen PMM whereas I am certain that if I had not seen it, it would just be a minimalist picture of a headless girl.
My example is what I feel is a perfect and accessible example of a power level wallpaper. I can assume that most people on /w/ have seen FMA. To those people, this picture has immediate meaning. To those who have not, it has no meaning. It is a strange drawing of a robot arm reaching for a red broken gem in a magic circle. Rather than immediately think, "that's Fullmetal Alchemist" they would think "what's going on with this picture. I must be missing something." That's why it's a power level picture. Not because of the contents, but because of the reaction it gives to the viewer.
