I'm trying out keyboard tiling as well, don't think I'll use it much, since my right hand is either on the mouse or on the home row most of the time. I might use it if I rebind it to the left hand though, say, Alt 1-9 (used to be workspace switching hotkeys, don't use them any more now).
How do you guys manage such an awkward set of hotkeys?
