If you're working on an image with more colors, you'll want to separate the swaps in to different layers and apply the proper filters from there. Keep the layers in order of where they appear in perspective from a 3d glance.
Never delete the original image, use layer by copy. Often times, cut has a small feather, and this way if you screw up, you have the source not far away.
