They replace religious beliefs in a higher power with belief in the state. The state ran by people with centralized power. Power will always corrupt. No matter how many pretty flowering speeches. It always ends the same.You know when I was a child Animal Farm really changed my perspective on the world, I've read hundreds of books since then, but I don't think an ending has ever stuck with me as much. Didn't even know the book was supposed to be about communism initially, but the idea of slow corruption really hooked me.
Any system governing, economic, or otherwise that revolves around a small few with minimal input from the people is destined for failure.
Communism and Socialism can work in on a very small scale. Convents and monasteries for instance, but on a large country-wide scale it just doesn't work it's too much power with no checks and balance.
