I use Corel PhotoPaint.
With Magic Wand tool selected a white area and then Mask Similar to include everything else white.
Inverted the mask so only non-white was selected.
Cut the selection to a new layer, then deleted what was left behind.
Now, I checked the Preserve Transparency box and painted everything red with a broad
brush. Pixels which WERE transparent remained transparent.
