Create a black background layer so you can see what you're doing.
Select the foreground, then "mask from object"
Feather or reduce the mask by 1 pixel. You may have to experiment to see what looks right. The girl now has a border of unmasked pixels.
Invert the mask. That protects the girl and leaves that halo vulnerable to your tools.
Wipe the whole thing with a very large eraser.
