Massively extended life-spans had the effect of draining all enthusiasm from the residents of Heaven (the average life span of an inhabitant of Heaven is one hundred and sixty years old, although the higher classes generally live much longer); things simply fail to hold any kind of interest for more than twenty years or so in Heaven, and only complete change invoked any interest with mortalis. Equally unfortunate is that, in Heaven, there is little change. It was a rare occurrence when a being was given the slightest opportunity to rise above the position they were born into, hence it comes as no surprise that Madura held absolutely no expectations or hopes for the coming day. Even though this time the enemy was real and possibly about to slaughter every immortal being in heaven, all ten billion of them, the entirety of the next twenty-four hours would be spent drilling and parading by Madura.
