The reason people are having similar homescreens is because of guides. I'm not saying guides are bad, but I would rather see people using them as reference instead of blindly copying everything is says.
It's something that can kill creativity for some people because they stay in the boundaries of the guide and are afraid to experiment outside of it. With less help, people would have to experiment more which could bring more interesting ideas to the table. And no, don't expect your homscreen to be perfect from the start. There is always room for improvement.
