There’s something else I would do instead of that though. A technique I use sometimes is when the render is in a forest or with some trees, once it’s been cut out into the shape you want, if the render is in a layer by itself, duplicate it, make the new layer significantly darker, then go over the dark layer with a soft eraser in a way that mimics a shadow being cast on the render.
