I'm guilty of both, at one time or another, but I think calling attention to it is warranted to keep the quality of work high. I certainly never took it poorly when someone pointed out that my rendering method had missed outlines or destroyed details, or that my cropping left artifacts.
I would rather err on the side of unconstructive criticism, which you can still learn from, than on the side of unwarranted praise, from which you learn nothing.
