The best thing to do is talk about desktops. If you see something you want ask how they did it, or if they'll give their config/wallpaper/whatever.
Don't look for things to ask about, just let it come naturally. You can't force yourself to fit in. Post your desktop often, try different things with them and get a feel for /g/ culture before trying to jump into banter.
I got rid of the folder because everything was better off in my normal 'loli' folder instead.
