you muddle with it if the image is getting a bit to flat. I often use gamma as well to darken images or to control the level of white prior to mucking with contrast. The one thing with contrast is to use it lightly and to avoid blowing out light shades to white. To some small extent you have to watch the darks as well because they will crush as well.
>>1432622the original to this is a good example of a flat image. It was all pastels and starting to tonaly become a solid mass of gray. Try taking the original and setting it to gray scale you will find tonally it is all about or near the same shades. Adjusting the difference between these shades will give a image more depth and richness.
Did this one since I did not like the logo or trademark as well as the jpg artifacts.
