Here's what I did when I was using the wallpaper, so you can get a feel for what I was doing.
As you can see, the wallpaper has a lot of stuff going on, and not a lot of free space to work with. So you generally don't want to fill up the screen, especially with widgets that don't really blend in with the rice.
If you're dead set on having widgets for this kind of background, you might have to try editing the photo because there really isn't a lot of room for adding stuff. What you have going on is OK, but the widgets really detract from everything, and do the multitude of apps. The unthemed app drawer icon also is kind of an eyesore.
My suggestion right now would just be to try to delegate space on the rice to make everything look better. Can't really help you on the widgets though, I stay away from those. Nice start though.
