And despite its limited configuration options, its ease of configuration far surpasses that of foobar - especially if you're going for the ncmpcpp look (go figure).
Then there's the mpd model, which facilitates ricing. I hate rainmeter, so when I want to add a now playing widget or script the client/server protocol is excellent. Foobar has a plugin that offers a similar solution, but it instantly makes the chances of somebody else using what I made go out the window - cmdfetch has a line for the song you're playing if you have it installed, and I haven't seen a desktop that utilized that fact yet.
To each their own though. I use foobar when I don't feel like ricing or scrobbling my music.
