Even most of the animals and plants, even some human traditions were just copies of things in Heaven. But all the same, hundreds of millions of years he’d spent, every single one watching his greatest invention, the planet he had sealed the Elementals into (a feat no existing inhabitant of the heavens could ever repeat) grow into the most bountiful place in the universe. But regardless of the millions of years of eager vigil, it all ended in fifteen minutes of agony for Carthas and his planet. The Grand Lord of all Heaven almost looked human at that moment, a diminished figure weeping as he sat in his chair. A part of him wanted to look away from the Seeing Pool, to somehow ignore his grief, but he was transfixed by it, unable to tear his gaze away from the silver liquid showing his world’s destruction. A nervous looking assistant had entered the room quietly, and tentatively spoke up.
‘Lord, we must prepare the armies; we must try to defend the kingdom from the Elementals. They will be here in two decades, according to the SATH tacticians. There are meetings to attend to, committees to hold and so on…’ he stated blandly, hiding his own fear and dejection.
