Thankfully, it wasn’t too hard to turn, and it smoothly groaned clockwise. Ali continued turning the latch until he heard the click of a lock opening, and pushed both hands to the cool, smooth metal. He grunted, bracing his entire weight against the door, forcing it open inch by inch. His skeletal figure finally managed to push the door open enough for him to fully swing it open, and he clambered out of his shelter, too tired to focus on where he was walking.
The first thing he saw was the sky (or at least, what was blocking the sky); it was dull and orange, and there was no sun to be seen. It was as if the sun had disappeared from the sky, or the dust and smoke that clogged up the atmosphere was so thick that no light could filter through.
